SoloBio

About

A family business, built on relationships that last.

Since 1993 we have brought best certified Italian organic products to many European markets, working with producers we know and trust, creating successful relations with leading importers and distributors.

The SoloBio story

SoloBio grew out of the Italian organic movement itself, since its early stage, beginning in 1993 with a simple conviction: small and medium Italian organic producers, doing honest work deserved a trustworthy route abroad, and importers and distributors deserved a real person with high competence in the organic scene, to support their relations with them.

For over three decades the practice has stayed the same: we search and visit producers in person before we recommend them. We see the land, meet the people, taste their products. That first-hand knowledge is what an importer relies on.

Registered as Solo Bio di Sabrina Sanlej, it is a family business now in its second generation, with the same relationships, deepened by time, and the same refusal to treat sourcing as a transaction.

Three decades

A short history of the business.

1990

Sabrina joins the organic farming cooperative of Antonio Compagnoni, her future husband, and helps him organise the first IFOAM AgriBioMediterraneo conference in Vignola. Both are active in the region's first organic producers' consortium.

1993

Sabrina founds SoloBio with Antonio Milone, a German colleague with Italian roots, to connect Italian organic producers with the fast-growing organic markets of northern Europe, then looking for Italian specialities.

2000

The network grows across Italian regions and product categories, from cheese and cured meats to balsamic and pasta. Long relationships with importers and distributors bring the products to northern European shops.

2010s

Francesco joins as the second generation and brings design and communication in-house. Our relationships with producers, importers and distributors on both sides of the Alps keep growing.

Today

Over 30 years on, products we brokered sell under producers' brands and private labels in northern European countries such as Belgium, France, Sweden and Switzerland.

Three commitments.

01

Organic by passion

We favour small and medium-sized producers who farm and make food because they care. Many of our partners go beyond organic: they support their communities, nurture family traditions that go back generations, love their craft and keep refining what they make.

02

Real sustainability

We work with certified organic producers who value quality and good practices. We share a commitment to respect the land that sustains us, by protecting the environment and biodiversity.

03

Long-term, mutual relationships

We establish lasting trade relationships built upon reliability for producers, good value for importers and fair terms for all. Trust, continuity and mutual respect guide how we work.

Thirty years of trust, one conversation away.
